Gave up her job to get married but the relationship didn’t last

New Yorker Lantana Bleu – who prefers not to reveal her real name – once had her lavish lifestyle funded by wealthy men and couldn’t conceive the idea of settling down.

But now she has ‘retired’ from her lucrative career as a sex worker and turned her hand to writing, penning a three-part book series based on her wild past. The trilogy – which is part-autobiographical, part-fictional – follows ‘modern courtesan’ Miss Melisse as she navigates the bizarre world of sex work.

Lantana, who is now in her late-30s, says that she feels she was destined for the profession.’I’d always been fascinated by the world of escorts,’ she told FEMAIL. ‘It’s like it was a calling.’

‘He asked whether I’d sleep with him. I said I would be…
Lantana worked her way through university in her early 20s as an office temp, but says she ‘hated the corporate world’.

After briefly working as a dancer, she decided it was time for a change in career.’I acted on my instincts and became a call girl in New York,’ she recalled.
Lantana decided to ‘retire’ from her career as a high-class escort when she got married

She started out working in a ‘luxurious’ brothel where, she said, ‘I worked for a very nice lady and she taught me a lot.’After the brothel was shut down, Lantana set herself up with her own apartment, advertised her services in local newspapers, and began her fledgling career as a high-class escort.

‘At first I was very careful to always screen the men before meeting them in person,’ she said.’I’d call them at work to make sure they were who they said they were, and I’d always meet them for the first time in public. I even hired a bodyguard.’

But she insists that despite her caution, she has ‘never had a bad experience’ and that she enjoyed every minute of her newfound career path, adding: ‘I already loved it, so I was just getting paid to do what I love.’During her years as an escort, Lantana flew around the world and ate in expensive restaurants

‘Attractiveness is not a factor… unless they’re just gross’: Lantana insists it did not matter whether she wasy physically attracted to her clients as she was simply offering a service ‘like a masseuse or a doctor’And while some might balk at the idea of sleeping with men 50 years their senior – some of Lantana’s clients were in their seventies – she insists it wasn’t a turn-off for her.

‘I see myself as a healer or an entertainer,’ she said. ‘And healers should be compensated. You’re caring for someone, just like a masseuse or a doctor.

Men gave me huge sums of money – that was much better than the lingerie, the spa days and the gift certificates
Although Lantana refuses to go into specifics on how many clients she saw, or how much she was paid, she does recall being given a bag stuffed with $50,000 (£35,870) in cash by one of her ‘near and dears’, and says she was ‘not exclusive’ when it came to her suitors.’It doesn’t make business sense,’ she explained.

During her years as an escort, Lantana travelled all around the world, from Barbados to Cape Cod. ‘It was always an adventure,’ she said. ‘My life was populated with lots of different characters. However, it wasn’t all fun. ‘It’s a very lonely life being an escort,’ said Lantana. ‘It’s a bit like a nun going into a nunnery – you know you’re not going to have a boyfriend for a very long time. You’re married to the lifestyle.’

She did, however, manage to forge a relationship with one man despite him being ‘semi-married’ at the time.Despite keeping business and pleasure separate, Lantana embarked on a two-year relationship with one client

‘It was love at first sight,’ she said. We dated for two years and he used to visit me in New York every other week. I made a point of not talking to him about what I did on my “week off”. But he was much older than me and it didn’t work out in the end.’Another notable client was a virgin in his 60s who Lantana says was almost killed in the September 2001 World Trade Centre attacks.’He ran down 64 floors after the plane hit, and when he looked back the tower was crumbling,’ she said.

‘After that, he decided to seize his life. He called me a few weeks later and we would travel all around Europe.’Despite her lavish lifestyle, Lantana says that being an escort comes with its downsides. ‘Women in that lifestyle aren’t able to mature emotionally,’ she said.’You’re living in a fantasy world; you never have a serious relationship and you become emotionally immature.’

She finally ‘retired’ from the business around three years ago after falling in love and getting married, but in hindsight says that she ‘had no business getting married’.’I’m glad I tried it though,’ she said.

The relationship fell apart and, since then, Lantana has been focusing in writing her self-published trilogy, The Spicy Secrets of a Jet-Set Temptress, which follows Miss Melisse, a ‘world-class temptress at the top of her game.

She says that characters are ‘composites’ of people she encountered during her time as an escort, while the protagonist, Miss Melisse, is autobiographical. But she added that some details were ‘too outrageous’ to include.

‘I hope it appeals to a wider audience,’ she said. ‘Not just horny men.’

The Spicy Secrets of a Jet-Set Temptress is available from April 4.
